We're Pro-Bono!

In a historic move, ABC has cast Chaz Bono, son of pop legends Sonny and Cher, on "Dancing With The Stars." As the first transgender person to appear on the show, he and the show have received a incredible amount of backlash criticizing the move. Fox News' headline went so far as to say,"Don't Let Your Kids Watch Chaz Bono On 'Dancing With the Stars,'" continuing in the body of the article that the idea of transgender people is "very nearly insane. It’s a psychologically destructive myth and can erode our children’s evolving senses of self."

Of course, we know this is completely ridiculous. So we're working with long-time LGBT advocates/comedians Robin Tyler and Belinda Carroll to stage "Pro-Bono" viewing parties across the country on the night of the season premiere of the show -- September 19. Whether you're a fan of the show or not, this is a chance to stand with our brother Chaz, and to do some education work with our friends, as well. And we want to make sure to keep Chaz on the show as long as possible, as a positive role model for anyone who is struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Please join us staging a viewing party in your city for Chaz Bono and Dancing With The Stars beginning on September 19th at 8pm Eastern / 7pm Central, and continuing weekly on your local ABC affiliate. And after you sign up to organize or attend an event, be sure to post pictures and video to the "Pro-Bono" Facebook page -- the best picture from the night will get a GetEQUAL t-shirt!
