Save adultBasic!

As the sign says: Keep Funding adultBasic!

AdultBasic is the only affordable health insurance program for adult Pennsylvanians making just a little too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford health coverage.  42,000 Pennsylvanians who otherwise would slip through the cracks currently receive health care through adultBasic.

The state's Blue Cross plans receive non-profit tax exempt status in PA, but have accumulated a nearly $6 billion surplus.  In order to keep these tax breaks, the plans are legally required to make charitable contributions to the Community Health Reinvestment Fund.  Since funding for adultBasic became part of this charitable contribution 6 years ago, their surplus has grown from $4.2 billion to $5.6 billion.

If they could afford it then, they can afford it now!

In a Commonwealth where people die every day from lack of health insurance, Pennsylvania cannot afford  to add another 42,000 to the ranks of the uninsured.

Tell Tom Corbett, the Blues and our state legislators not to let adultBasic die.  Sign the petition and fwd it to your friends!

Don't Eliminate the AdultBasic Health Insurance Program!

We the undersigned are looking for Tom Corbett, the Non-profit 'Blues' and our state legislators to work together in order to continue the adultBasic health insurance program. The state's Blue Cross plans, which have built up a surplus of over $5.6 billion, have been using some of that surplus to fund adultBasic, a low cost health plan for adult Pennsylvanians. Blue Cross is tax exempt, in return for operating in the public good. However, they are now planning to stop contributing to adultBasic. Tom Corbett claimed support for a six month extension of the program while running for office. We now need the new Governor and our state legislators to work together with the Blues in order to save this critical program.
