On January 5th at Noon, the DC Environmental Network will be holding the first networking opportunity of the new year and will feature Tara Morrison, Superintendent of Rock Creek Park and Beth Mullin, Executive Director of Rock Creek Conservancy.
Beth and Tara will talk about what is new in Rock Creek and will facilitate a discussion about how we can work together to promote sustainability and take advantage of opportunities for this unique green space in the heart of our nation's capital city.

EVENT REPORT: Wal-Mart Fails on Sustainability
Watch two important videos featuring Stacy Mitchell of the New Rules Project and Joslyn Williams, President of the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO as they present the unsustainable business practices of Wal-Mart and how it will impact District residents.

Our panelists demonstrated how for every 1 job Wal-Mart brings to the District we may lose as much as 1.4 jobs and end up with a weaker and more unsustainable economy. Our panelists also discussed the extensive green washing Wal-Mart participates in and separates Wal-Mart's fictitious pronouncements about their sustainability efforts from the reality that is demonstrated in almost every community in the United States.

The DC Environmental Network believes that Wal-Mart is taking advantage of economic challenges our country is facing to build six new stores in Washington, DC and hundreds of others across the land. The economic and environmental impacts of so many developments to our local environment and economy will have major ramifications for the kind of city Washington, DC becomes. This is a defining moment for the District and we are hoping the Mayor and Council will stand up to Wal-Mart and make sure our city is helped more than hurt by their presence.
