All workers should earn paid sick time!
Everybody gets sick. But not everyone has the time to recover. 40% of people working in Portland area don’t earn paid sick time while working – not a single day! That’s not healthy for them, their workplaces, their families, their schools – or the people they serve. When workers earn sick time, everybody benefits.
Sign the petition to let Mayor Hales and the Portland city council know that you believe all workers in Portland should have the opportunity to earn paid sick time off while they work.
Dear Portland Commissioners,
I think all workers in our city deserve the time to recover when they’re ill – and the time to care for a sick family member, too. That’s the kind of community I want to live in. But right now, 43% of people working in and around Portland can’t earn a single sick day while working, and a whopping 74% of food service workers in Multnomah County can’t either - even though handling food is one of the fastest ways to spread illness. It’s not equitable and it's not healthy.
Can you help these folks and our community by supporting a local earned sick days requirement, like other west coast cities have done? When workers earn sick time, everybody benefits. Thank you for listening and consistently responding to needs identified by the communities you serve. Sincerely,
