 Here is a headline you won’t read in the corporate press or see crawling across the TV screen: Frothing, Insatiable Maw of the War Machine Screaming for More Blood and Treasure This rhetorical escalation against Iran is being reported as a “bipartisan consensus” to keep “all options on the table.” But that doesn’t mean it is anything but a ruse to pull us into another military conflict in the Middle East. The language is reminiscent of early 2003: “Iran is developing nuclear weapons! We’ve got to stop it now! Otherwise Iran could hand it off to a terrorist!” How long will it be before someone directly quotes the Bush administration and says, “The smoking gun will be a mushroom cloud”? This freak-out is infected with politics at every level - fear-mongering is extremely beneficial for right-wing politicians in every country involved in this manufactured crisis, who seek to increase support for militaristic policy by evoking right-wing frames in the minds of their populations. We must counter these frames and challenge the corporate media to investigate claims, instead of just copying and pasting them into their reports.
