![]() Time is a river, as someone once said. You can never put your foot in it in the same place twice. I've been swimming in the concept of the passing of a decade lately, because I just passed my ten-year anniversary as a writer and editor for Truthout. In case that statement catches you up short, all I can say is this: try to encompass it from my perspective. Bush. His filthy stolen-money tax cuts. The war in Afghanistan. The invasion of Iraq, and all the lies that led to so much death and destruction. The new "laws," passed during the previous administration, that have unleashed the current one, giving us wonderful things like the recent presidential declaration that Americans "suspected" of terrorism can be killed by the armed forces for which your tax dollars pay. Psssssst ... according to a broad interpretation of these so-called "terrorism" statutes, you can be targeted for supporting Truthout, because we publish articles opposing what this administration is doing regarding drone-killings and extra-constitutional assassinations. I'm not scared. I've been at this for ten years now, I lived through Bush and his minions and his wars and his threats, and here's what I know: it is the fight that matters. It is the fight that counts. We win, we lose, but we fight. Can you help keep Truthout strong for another decade? Make a tax-deductible donation to Truthout today:
