Truthout recently launched a series on US policy toward Mexico. The goal of the "Truthout on the Border" series is to dispel the myths of decades of bipartisan Washington, DC subjugation policies toward our southern neighbor.

On almost every major front - including migration, guns, militarization, NAFTA and the so-called war on drugs - the official government version is contradicted by the facts.

It takes money to do on-site reporting and research to expose the truth behind the officially stated policies that, in the case of the war on drugs, have left more than 50,000 Mexicans dead and thousands more "disappeared" in just six years.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent conveying the official story through the megaphone of the corporate news media when it comes to Mexico and Central America. The Truthout on the Border series is ripping off the mask of deceit and exposing the ruinous damage left in its wake.
