The controversial gas drilling technique known as "fracking" is quickly changing the landscape in Washington and our own backyards. Last week, Truthout launched a new section called "Gas Rush: Fracking In Depth," where you can find all of our groundbreaking coverage of America's gas boom and the environmental problems caused by fracking. From well blowouts and earthquakes to President Obama's veiled endorsements, "Gas Rush" is a one-stop shop for information and analysis you can't find anywhere else.
"Gas Rush" acts like a fracking timeline going back to the summer of 2010, when I first jumped on the fracking beat after a "potentially catastrophic" gas well blowout in western Pennsylvania. Since then, I have covered the grassroots movement opposing fracking, exposed the industry's ties to top politicians, covered high profile contamination events and chronicled the EPA's slow march toward regulation. My latest piece, "Silencing Communities: How the Fracking Industry Keeps Its Secrets," exposes how the industry uses nondisclosure agreements and legal exemptions to silence landowners and hide information on toxic chemicals from doctors and the public. At the moment, I'm investigating fracking's economic impacts on working families. The "boom and bust" industry does create jobs, but is the money worth risking lives?
Truthout relies on support from our community of readers to hold the fracking industry accountable and provide independent news and analysis on the most important environmental issues America is facing today. Please make a donation tonight so we can continue doing these crucial investigations!
