Two years ago, its 44,000 members were all fired when the Mexican government took over generating stations by force to set the stage for privatizing electricity. Egyptian Court Sentences Mubarak to Life in Prison

All 67 Florida Election Supervisors Suspend Governor Rick Scott's Voter Purge
Judd Legum, ThinkProgress: "On Thursday, the Justice Department demanded Florida Governor Rick Scott end his extensive purge of registered voters from the rolls because it was in violation of federal law. Scott still hasn't formally responded but his county election supervisors have already taken action…. Florida elections supervisors said Friday they will discontinue a state-directed effort to remove names from county voter rolls because they believe the state data is flawed and because the U.S. Department of Justice has said the process violates federal voting laws."

George Zimmerman Ordered Back to Jail in Travyon Martin Case
Scott Hiaasen, McClatchy Newspapers: "George Zimmerman was ordered back to jail on Friday for misleading the court about his access to an Internet fundraising account. Seminole County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Lester revoked the bail for Zimmerman - who is facing a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin - after finding that Zimmerman and his wife concealed their access to a $200,000 account during a bond hearing in April."

California Prison Throws 78 Prisoners in Solitary for More Than 20 Years
Tara Culp-Ressler, ThinkProgress: "A civil rights group sued California's prison system, claiming its use of long-term solitary confinement for the high-security inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison should be considered torture and therefore violates the prisoners' human rights. Lawyers … demand[ed] prison reforms on behalf of the more than 500 current inmates who have been held in the maximum-security prison for between 10 and 28 years. The lawsuit is in line with United Nations experts' recommendations for a nation-wide ban on solitary confinement."
