Domestic Violence Survivors Battle Within the Courts: Confronting Retaliatory Litigation
Antoinette Bonsignore, Truthout: "Courts, and in particular family courts, must begin to recognize the patterns of abusive litigation to protect the needs of domestic violence survivors. Members Who Supported Big Oil Have Received $38.6 Million From the Industry
Rebecca Leber, ThinkProgress: "Republicans have said they are for all forms of energy, but the Domestic Energy Production Act passed today shows much different priorities. But until recently, scientists and environmental officials have assumed that deep layers of rock beneath the earth would safely entomb the waste for millennia."

Tom Horne, Death Threats and the US Constitution
Roberto Cintli Rodriguez, Truthout: "In 2010, the anti-ethnic studies bill HB 2281 was signed by Gov. Jan Brewer. In 2012, under threat of the loss of 10 percent of the district's annual budget, Tucson Unified School District dismantled the [Mexican-American studies] MAS department. Despite this, the battle is not over as there are a number of legal issues and court cases still to be litigated. In the meantime, much hate has been unleashed, including death threats."

The Jerry Sandusky Trial and Child Sexual Abuse's Walking Wounded
Ellen Magnis, The Guardian UK: "Those of us who work to fight crimes against children use the Jerry Sandusky trial as a platform to say that this happens so much more than you would imagine. We use this as an opportunity to appeal to parents to pay attention, to look for changes in a child's 'normal,' and to understand the consequences of looking the other way. While we wait for the outcome of this latest national scandal, we are missing the bigger discussion. I understand why. It's an ugly topic nobody really wants to talk about."

Republican War on Food Stamps Is Just More Race Baiting for Votes
Mark Karlin, BuzzFlash at Truthout: "Of course, there is one big problem with the racially coded language of the GOP war on food stamps - and it's a big problem for the racial hog callers: whites outnumber blacks on food stamps. And whites outnumber blacks on welfare by about a 2-1 margin. So, what the Republicans are engaged in with their latest farm bill attack on food stamps is not even just racial coding; it's just plain racist."
