Voters spoke loud and clear in 2012: President Obama ran for his second term on a party platform strongly supporting the right to abortion regardless of the ability to pay, and he won resoundingly.

By enormous margins, women delivered that victory.

Now is the time to seize the opportunity for bold action. In this next term, we ask the President to listen to women, whose votes were decisive and who said that abortion was the most important issue in the 2012 election. Aim high. Dream big. Let's take this historic occasion to remove barriers to abortion access so that all women may live their lives with dignity.

Dear President Obama,

Congratulations on your decisive win on November 6. Like many who voted in this historic election, I regarded a woman's access to affordable abortion as one of the most important issues when casting my ballot. I know that you support a woman's right to choose abortion regardless of her ability to pay, and that is why women voted overwhelmingly to return you to office for a second term.

I, too, believe that every woman should have the ability to make her own decision about bringing a child into the world, regardless of income. I want to live in a nation where every woman's life matters.

President Obama, in your acceptance speech on Election Day, you said that you believe in an America that is generous and compassionate, an America that is not weakened by inequality. So do I. And that is why I am asking you to commit to ending bans on abortion funding that harm women and increase gender inequality.

Because of the Hyde Amendment, women enrolled in Medicaid must sacrifice basic necessities to get the health care they need. And because of new restrictions in health care reform, millions of women may lose the abortion coverage they have now. This would be devastating for women and their families. As you yourself noted this year, reproductive health care is an economic issue.

It is time to end abortion funding restrictions like the Hyde Amendment. When you submit your budget to Congress next year, please take the opportunity to deliver on your promise to the women who came out in force to support you, and strike the Hyde Amendment from the budget. Aim high. Fight for the women who fought for you.

I believe that all women deserve to take care of themselves and their families and I know that you do too.

It's a matter of economic justice and fairness.
