Tips for adding your own story and editing the letter:

- Please include only plain text (no html)
- Include the most important or compelling points of your story and write them in a concise way that relates to the rest of the letter. For example "I'm proud of my son for volunteering for the Army. But after 3 tours and missing the birth of his son, I wonder, was it worth it?"

Afghanistan is a debacle and is falling apart fast.  The recent accidental Koran burning and the horrific deaths of innocent women and children is yet another vivid reminder of what has gone very wrong in Afghanistan.  
	
The surge has not worked.  As we escalated the war, the insurgency fought harder and grew in numbers.   The surge has produced a record number of coalition deaths, injuries and lost limbs.  The surge has not stopped the momentum of the insurgency; just last year there were over 16,000 IED attacks against U.S. troops – a record number.  And the cost of an average IED is just $30.

The military brass have run the show and they have not been honest about the facts on the ground. Lt Col Davis’ recent bombshell report & the National Intelligence Estimate (a report by 16 U.S. intelligence agencies) verify  the lies and deceptions told to continue a war that will not succeed.

It is very clear that we have not, and will not, win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people - they don’t want us or the corrupt Karzai government we have backed.

It is time for our troops to come home.  Our top leaders have failed our good men and women in uniform.

STAND UP IN SUPPORT OF OUR TROOPS, TAKE ACTION TODAY.  Call your elected officials demanding and end to combat operations, instead working toward a diplomatic solution for the region.
