On February 26, Oscar night, the National Domestic Workers Alliance will be hosting #BeTheHelp Academy Award viewing parties all around the nation to talk with our friends and family about how domestic workers touch our lives and do the work that makes all other work possible. Will you join us?
Interviews with The Help star Viola Davis on ABC and NPR's Fresh Air
The Help star Octavia Spencer and NDWA Director Ai-jen Poo recently spoke at this panel at USC
The acclaimed film The Help has helped draw attention to the stories and struggles of domestic workers. Actress Octavia Spencer was recently recognized with a Golden Globe for her role in the film and had this to say:
"With regard to domestics in this country, now and then, I think Dr. King said it best: 'All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance.' And I thank you for recognizing that with our film."
The Help has been nominated for four Academy Awards in the major categories of Best Supporting Actress (Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer), Best Actress (Viola Davis) and Best Picture (The Help). Imagine the millions of people around the globe whose eyes will be on the Oscars on February 26 and how having their attention, we can help raise awareness for domestic workers.
