National Domestic Workers Alliance

Dear Supporter,

When Meches Rosales of Domestic Workers United saw The Help a few months ago, she was blown away. She couldn't believe that a major motion picture featured domestic workers in starring roles. Too often silent or invisible in our society, the lives of domestic workers were suddenly front and center. Read her blog post on the Ms. Foundation blog today, and share it with your friends!

Shortly after this, the National Domestic Workers Alliance released Meet Today's Help, a video which has now been viewed nearly 8,000 times. Last week, we launched our #BeTheHelp campaign and shared with you our latest video project, Help Is..., produced in collaboration with one of the companies behind The Help, Participant Media.

Watch and share Help Is... now.

Today, we celebrate another milestone: Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, stars of The Help, have been nominated for SAG and Golden Globe Awards for their powerful portrayals of domestic workers in 1960s Mississippi. On behalf of the entire NDWA family, we congratulate these women for their achievement.

#BeTheHelp

Visit www.domesticworkers.org/#BeTheHelp to watch Help Is..., learn about the realities of domestic work, and share videos and facts with your friends.

More than just a pop culture news story, these nominations are significant because they've now placed these characters — and the realities of domestic work — on a global stage. We may never again have this golden opportunity to inspire millions of Americans to become champions for our movement.

Let's seize the day.

Throughout the upcoming awards season, NDWA will be hosting events and Watch Parties across the country and online to celebrate this global moment, and we hope you will join us. Stay tuned for our announcement of the first #BeTheHelp event in New York City coming soon, and if you haven't done so already, please like our Facebook page to stay informed of all the exciting things that we have planned.

Warmly,
Ai-jen
