Minimum wage and overtime are protections that most workers take for granted — but for many of the 2.5 million home care aides in this country, those protections don't exist.

Yesterday's announcement by the U.S. Department of Labor that it is proposing updated fair pay rules for home care workers is an important step towards making things right. Watch President Obama's speech announcing the rules, and then read NDWA's Statement on the new rules »

In the coming weeks, it will be essential that the Department of Labor receive formal comments from individuals and families who will benefit from these changes.  The commenting period is not open yet, but will be soon, and we will be pushing for thousands of comments from supporters. Please join us in the Caring Across Generations movement, to stay informed about how you can support these new proposed regulations.

We believe that the rights to be paid minimum wage and receive overtime pay are fundamental protections that should be available to all workers, including domestic workers who are providing vital services and supports that enable aging seniors and people with disabilities to live in their homes and communities.

Great movements create the context for great acts of leadership. Thank you to all the organizers and workers who've sacrificed over the years so that this moment could be possible.
