Valentine’s Day is all about the ones you love: A public embrace to those most dear. Every day, domestic workers care for who and what we love most — our children and aging family members, loved ones with disabilities and our homes. On Oscar night, will you join us to give them a big Valentine, too? Join NDWA on February 26th to host or attend a special #BeTheHelp Oscar Night Viewing Party and show some love! “I look forward to going to work and to these three girls who I am able to help raise and really love them.” — Jennifer Bernard, domestic worker in New York, NY “When I speak about my work, my heart swells because I adore my work. I do it with such love. I leave a piece of my heart in each house I clean.” — Yesenia Perez, domestic worker in San Francisco, CA “For me being a caregiver, assisting elders means taking care of them emotionally and spiritually.” — Tita Boots, domestic worker in Los Angeles, CA The acclaimed film “The Help” has shined a spotlight on the struggles of America’s 2.5 million domestic workers, women like Jennifer, Yesenia and Tita. In just two weeks, the world will be watching the Academy Awards to see if the film and it’s stars win Hollywood’s biggest Valentine — an Oscar. That night, in our living rooms — from Los Angeles and New York to the Netherlands and Hong Kong — people like you will be together at #BeTheHelp Oscar Night Viewing Parties. We will be rooting for “The Help” and turning compassion into action, speaking out in support of state and federal protections for domestic workers — like minimum wage and overtime pay. Won’t you join us, show some love and give domestic workers a lasting Valentine like winning passage of the CA Domestic Workers Bill of Rights? All night, we will also be sharing stories from these special parties through Facebook, Twitter and our website. We will be excited to hear yours! Our families, our health, our homes: these are what matter most.
