Dear Commissioner Clyburn:

This August--at the Minneapolis Public Hearing on the Future of the Internet--while 800 audience members and 1,100 online viewers listened, you said:

“ I am a firm believer in an open Internet, and I am also a proponent of the Commission enacting rules to ensure an open Internet….This is about consumers—rather than corporations—maintaining control over their online experience. This is about keeping the Internet open for new entrants, small companies, people of all backgrounds and levels of experience and financial resources, including people of color and women.”
Now, as we approach the critical vote to determine the rules of the road that will guide the Internet of our Future, millions of people like me are depending on you to say NO to paid prioritization and corporate loopholes, and YES to ensuring that network neutrality rules are extended to the poor, rural, and communities of color who primarily access the Internet through wireless devices.
Since your speech to the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council at Howard University last January, you’ve been a strong leader for change, a voice for our communities, and a champion for issues that are usually left out at the FCC.

You understand that the policy debates taking place in Washington impact our daily lives.  You know that the outcome of these deliberations will have a critical role in determining the overall health and wellbeing of the communities we serve and live in- determining in no small part their access to quality education and healthcare, full employment, and a robust economy.

The future of the Internet is not only about access and civic participation—it’s also about the economic opportunity that openness creates. Without an affordable connection to an open Internet where small entrepreneurs can compete- poor, rural and communities of color are disconnected from the twenty-first century information economy, left to linger, without an “on ramp” to jobs, prosperity, and economic security.

Now, more than ever, we need your support!

The FCC has had plenty of time to consider the issue of Net Neutrality.  You have heard from thousands of community members like me, for whom an Open Internet is necessary for social and economic inclusion.  I’m counting on you to make sure my future isn’t overlooked in this crucial debate!
