Act Today to Protect Reproductive Rights in Maine

(Scroll down and enter your zip code to find the name and contact information of your representative.)

Any day now, the Maine House will vote on five bills that would make access to birth control and abortion care services much more difficult for Maine women and teens if these bills are passed.

Your action TODAY is essential to prevent these bills from becoming Maine law!

LD 31: An Act To Protect the Safety of Maine Children by Requiring the Express Consent of a Legal Guardian to Dispense Prescription Medication to a Minor would eliminate young people's access to confidential birth control and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.

LD 116: An Act to Require a 24-Hour Waiting Period Prior to an Abortion would require two in-person visits to an abortion provider. Waiting periods increase the medical, emotional, and financial cost of abortion. They are unnecessary because women already have to wait for an appointment due to the very limited number of abortion providers in Maine.

LD 924: An Act to Educate Women on the Medical Risks Associated with Abortion would require doctors to read a biased, coercive script to a woman at least 24 hours before the woman may obtain an abortion. "Educating" is a term that is elastic at best -- and at its worst, downright misleading.

LD 1457: An Act to Strengthen the Consent Laws for Abortions Performed on Minors and Incapacitated Persons
would require physicians to obtain signed, notarized consent from a minor's parent before she can obtain an abortion and would repeal Maine's successful adult involvement law.

LD 1463: An Act Regarding Offenses Against an Unborn Child would create a new class of crime for harm to a fetus.  Current Maine law already addresses violence against pregnant women without unnecessarily politicizing the issue. Current Maine law protects the pregnant woman and, as a result, protects her pregnancy.

Please take a few minutes to send a message to your House member.  You can use our pre-written message or write your own.

Tell your representative that you oppose these anti-family planning, anti-choice bills that restrict the reproductive rights of Maine women and teens.

Urge your Representative to vote NO on ALL of these bills.
