URGENT CALL TO ACTION: Tell Sen. Toomey Domestic Violence is a Non-Partisan Issue
Enter your zip code below to send a letter to Sen. Toomey TODAY!
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), first authorized in 1994, has had bi-partisan support for several decades – until now! This year, for the first time, VAWA was voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on straight party lines – not a single Republican legislator supported it. VAWA is dangerously close to not receiving the support it needs from the Senate to be reauthorized this year. Fifty Four senators have agreed to support this bill – including PA Senator Robert Casey. However, only 3 of the 54 sponsors are Republicans; Senators Scott Brown (MA), Michael Crapo (UT) and Lisa Murkowski (AK). Pennsylvania women, we need BOTH of our Senators to support this bill. For VAWA to successfully be approved by the Senate, it needs 6 more Senators to agree to set partisan politics aside and support domestic violence victims, the criminal justice systems, and victim support providers who care for them. Allowing VAWA to expire will waste millions of dollars and jeopardize millions of lives.
WGF urges you to join us in sending a message to Senator Toomey that we need his support of this bill. He needs to hear from you today! Women and girls all over the country are looking to us, Pennsylvania. If we can encourage our Senator to join the cause of defending women from violence today, then we will be one vote closer to victory. Every voice matters! You can make change happen! (Note: The contact information required in the action form is required by the legislator.)
