The Congressional Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus is a forum for raising awareness and educating members of Congress about addiction and recovery. It’s a way to build interest in expanding access to care for people with addiction and ending discriminatory policies. The bi-partisan caucus brings members of the House and their staffs together to focus attention on their shared interest and to build support for policies that will support addiction recovery. Representatives John Sullivan (R-OK) and Tim Ryan (D-OH) are the Caucus co-chairs for the 112th Congress, joined by Representatives Mary Bono Mack (R-CA) and Paul Tonko (D-NY ) who are serving as Vice co-chairs.

Faces & Voices of Recovery and allied organizations have set a goal of enlisting one-third of the members of the US House of Representatives in the Caucus by the end of this year. We need your help to reach that goal and raise awareness about recovery!  Find out if your Representative has joined the Caucus.  If your Representative has joined, please take a moment to email your Representative to thank them for their support of recovery.

If your Representative has not yet joined the Caucus you can take two actions.

1) Call your Representative directly by finding their contact information here or by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202.224.3121 and ask for the office of your Representative. You can also organize a group of constituents to call and ask him or her to join the Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus. Let your Representative know that you and other people in the recovery community can offer your knowledge and expertise to the caucus.

Hi, my name is ___________ and I’m calling from (name of your town). I’m a member of (name of your organization).
I want (name of your Representative) to know about an important bi-partisan Caucus, the Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus.
I know from personal experience that recovery from addiction is a reality. (Briefly tell something about yourself, your community.)
The Caucus is an important opportunity for members of Congress to focus attention on addiction and recovery.
I urge (name of your Representative) to sign up for the Caucus today. We (describe or name your group again) would be happy to serve as a resource for you about the impact of untreated addiction in our community and the hope that recovery offers.
