"Fog of War" begins to part nearly a year after Fukushima Nuclear Catatrophe began
Thanks to FOIA requests by journalists and environmentalists, the NRC has begun to release transcripts and audio recordings of its confused, groping response to the Fukushima Nuclear Catastrophe (destroyed units 4,3 and 2 pictured left) in the days and weeks after it first began on 3/11/2011. Restart of Fort Calhoun reactor uncertain long after floodwaters recede
Omaha Public Power District’s (OPPD) Fort Calhoun nuclear power station has been shut down for ten months, and following a February 22, 2012 Commission briefing by NRC staff and company officials, there is no restart date even on the horizon. The NRC is holding back its permission to restart the reactor pending a widening review of the plant’s post-flood condition and the company’s managerial failures to maintain an adequate safety culture.
