"Demonic" reality of Fukushima, versus absurdity of NRC
In a newly-released study, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission claims little to no health damage would result, even from a worst-case accident at atomic reactors in the U.S. The NRC whitewash examines only two nuclear sites, one being Peach Bottom Units 2 & 3 in Pennsylvania, near Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. But new revelations from the Fukushima Nuclear Catastrophe show that Japan's top leaders feared a "demonic chain reaction" of meltdowns engulfing multiple nuclear power plants downwind of Fukushima Daiichi, which could have led to the evacuation and permanent loss of Tokyo. Had workers abandoned Daiichi as TEPCO attempted to mandate, then workers would also have had to abandon the nearby Daiini and Tokai reactors to prevent radiation poisoning deaths. Yet an earlier study, commissioned by NRC in 1982, which the agency tried to cover up at the time, reported that a catastrophic radioactivity release from either Peach Bottom 2 or 3 would result in 72,000 "peak early fatalities," 45,000 "peak early injuries," 37,000 "peak cancer deaths," and $119 billion in property damage. The Peach Bottom nuclear facility is larger than Fukushima Daiichi and is close enough to other reactors to set in motion a similar "demonic chain reaction" of meltdowns. More.
