The struggle to pass the California “Homeowner Bill of Rights” continues. CRC and our allies are focusing our efforts on advocacy for strong and meaningful dual track and due process bills. The legislative process has been long and complicated, however we believe the Legislative Conference Committee is likely to vote on the bill by next week.
In order to pass strong bills out of committee, we need to secure Senator Ron Calderon’s vote. Community groups and consumer advocates are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the policy language of the bills achieves an end to "dual track", contains mechanisms to enforce the policy and to hold banks and servicers accountable when they violate the law.
Today we ask you to weigh-in once again, by entering your zip code below to send an email to Governor Jerry Brown; Legislative Conference Committee member, Senator Ron Calderon; and influential Senators Juan Vargas, Alex Padilla, Ed Hernandez, Michael Rubio, and Gloria Negrete McLeod to support this important legislation.
If you do not live or work in any of these Senator's districts, please call them and ask them to support dual track legislation.
Sample Script: "We urge you to support meaningful dual track and due process protections to homeowners that are currently being discussed in the special Legislative Conference Committee on the Homeowner Bill of Rights. These bills need strong enforcement, with a meaningful private of action, in order to protect borrowers and help avoid more foreclosures in California. Please be a champion for homeowners and help pass this important bill."
