I Demand Respect for Venezuelan Sovereignty-No US Interference

Send a letter today to the White House to demand that the US government not intervene in or try to manipulate Venezuela's October 7 elections.

Dear Pres. Obama,

I urge constructive engagement and partnerships with Venezuela, not sabotage or interference in its affairs.  Pres. Chavez is not a dictator, but an elected representative of his people.  His administration and the efforts of the Bolivarian government have led to a more than 20% reduction in the poverty rate since he first took office, eradicated illiteracy and brought rates of malnutrition to the lowest percentage ever (6%).  The Chavez administration has funded the development of hundreds of autonomously governed community media outlets; turned over more than six million acres of fallow land to family and cooperative farmers; and achieved unprecedented popular participation in Venezuelan democracy.  Venezuela has been a source of stability in the region, as evidenced by its advocacy for a peace process in Colombia.  I call on your administration to pursue good relations with the people of Venezuela and to reject all calls to manipulate or sabotage the people's chosen government or to violate Venezuela's right to sovereignty.
